- Deschutes River Report -

Updated: October 12, 2008

Stream flow: The Deschutes has been in excellent shape, water temps have been in the lower 50's.

Steelhead: Steelhead fishing has been excellent from the mouth to Warm Springs! A couple of friends and I were out for 2 days last week with guide Tom Larimer in the lower river and had excellent fishing, a couple of fish were big B-run fish. The best thing is that there are few people in the lower river!

Trout: Trout fishing has been good, little pressure on them right now with such a good Steelhead run. This is a great time to start stalking trout in the eddies slurping small BWO's.

Hatches: Blue Winged Olives are starting to hatch with the cooler water. You will also find some good fishing with midges in the back eddies

Patterns: Nymphs: Caddis Pupa tan or olive #14-18 Pheasant Tail Nymph Size #16-20, Hares Ear #16-20, Rock Worm #14-16, Assorted Bead Heads #14-18. Golden or Black Stone Nymphs size #4-#8, Dries: BWO patterns #16-20, Elk Hair Caddis Olive or Tan #14-16,
