Review: Cool rod! Super, super unique. Good thing I have a reel heavy enough to balance it out: a 1960s Hardy Perfect 4 1/4, no line guard, bow tie pillars at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, an old cast reel that weighs 15oz empty. It's the heaviest reel I have, originally purchased for a 16 footer. 15oz to balance the Echo Glass Spey 7120! Probably 18oz when filled with backing and shooting line. A down-locking reel seat wouldn't have helped much here, either lol. I don't have an issue with this, but I know most everyone out there does not have a reel this heavy in their collection, nor is it easy to buy a new reel of this heft. I dig it, though. I'm looking forward to getting out and giving it a good cast and swing. But if you like the swing balance of your spey rod to not be tip heavy, you will need a 15oz reel (empty weight) for the 7120.
