The Deschutes trout fishery remains open, and fishing has been encouraging for anglers willing to get out early or stay late.

Caddis and aquatic moths are the main event right now, with trout looking up during the lower-light hours. An Elk Hair Caddis is a great way to cover pocket water, while caddis larva, sculpin patterns, and leeches have continued to produce below the surface. Trout Spey anglers are also finding some impressively aggressive grabs when the streamer bite lines up.

Cooler nights have helped keep water temperatures in better shape than recent summers, adding to the optimism. For current conditions, approach notes, and fly suggestions, read the full Deschutes River Fishing Report.
