Fishing Tools

The right fishing tools depend on the species you fish for, the size of flies and tackle you use, and how much strength or precision you need. Nippers and scissors handle clean cuts and rigging tasks, while forceps, pliers, and hook removers help with flies, hooks, barbs, and fish handling.

For trout fishing, compact tools are often enough. For steelhead, salmon, warmwater, saltwater, or larger flies, heavier pliers and stronger cutters can be worth carrying. Consider grip, cutting strength, corrosion resistance, size, and how easily the tool attaches to a pack, vest, sling, or retractor.
