Choose the Right Carp or Shad Fly

Carp Flies

Carp flies often imitate crayfish, worms, nymphs, damsels, leeches, and other food found along the bottom. Consider fly weight, profile, color, hook strength, and how softly the pattern lands when sight fishing in shallow or clear water.

Shad Flies

Shad flies are generally compact, brightly colored, and weighted to reach fish holding in current. Carry several colors, sizes, and sink rates so you can adjust to changing depth, water clarity, and river flow.
