Dry Fly

Fish the surface with dry flies designed to imitate mayflies, caddis, stoneflies, midges, terrestrials, and other insects. Explore traditional patterns, attractors, emergers, and high-floating flies for rivers, streams, lakes, and stillwater.

➤ Choose the Right Dry Fly

The right dry fly depends on the insects present, the season, water conditions, and how fish are feeding. Match-the-hatch patterns imitate specific insects, while attractor flies use visible colors and profiles to draw attention when no clear hatch is present.

Consider fly size, shape, color, visibility, and how well the pattern floats. Smaller, natural patterns can be effective in clear or technical water, while larger or more buoyant flies are easier to see and can support a lightweight dropper nymph.
