Chubby Chernobyl - Black

The RIO Chubby Chernobyl is a proven fish-catching dry fly and a useful addition to nearly any fly box. Its black foam body creates a strong silhouette, while the high-visibility white wing makes the fly easier to track on the water.

This versatile pattern can imitate grasshoppers, stoneflies, drakes, and other large terrestrial insects. It also works well as a general attractor when searching for cruising or rising fish. The buoyant foam construction makes it an excellent choice for dry-dropper fishing.

Fly Features

• Foam body: Dense black foam provides dependable flotation and a bold silhouette.
• Rubber legs: Eight flexible rubber legs create subtle, strike-triggering movement.
• Poly wings: Dual white poly wings suggest a fluttering insect while providing excellent on-water visibility.

Fishing Applications

• Dry-dropper rigs: Buoyant construction can support a properly matched nymph or dropper beneath the surface.
• Summer and fall terrestrials: A strong choice when grasshoppers and other large insects are active along grassy banks, riffles, and undercut edges.
• Stonefly and large-insect imitation: The dark profile works well during stonefly activity, in broken water, or whenever fish are responding to large surface flies.
• Searching pattern: Use it to cover water and attract fish when no specific hatch is evident.

• Color: Black with a high-visibility white wing
• Hook sizes: #8, #10, #12, #14, and #16
