RIO Skagit MOW Tips

RIO InTouch Skagit MOW Tips let you adjust your Skagit setup for changing water conditions without changing your shooting head. Loop-to-loop connections make tip changes straightforward, while floating, combination floating/sinking, and full-sinking options help you adapt to different runs.

Choose your series and tip configuration using the specifications below. RIO’s recommended Skagit head grain ranges provide a starting point. Your fly size, fly weight, and casting setup also matter when selecting a tip.

Choosing Your MOW Tip

Start with the series suited to your Skagit head and flies, then choose the floating/sinking configuration. For example, a 7.5ft Float/2.5ft T-8 tip has a shorter sinking section than a 2.5ft Float/7.5ft T-8 tip. Both use T-8 sinking material, but the different section lengths change how the tip fishes.

Sink rates below are approximate rates for the sinking material, not a guaranteed fishing depth or a sink rate for the entire combination tip. Current, fly weight, leader length, casting angle, and line management affect how your fly fishes.

Light MOW Tips: T-8

Light MOW Tips use T-8 sinking material, rated at approximately 7 inches per second. RIO recommends this series for lightly weighted flies and Skagit heads of 475 grains or less. Floating sections are white; full-sinking tips are dark red.

Medium MOW Tips: T-11

Medium MOW Tips use T-11 sinking material, rated at approximately 8 inches per second. RIO recommends this series for heavily weighted flies and Skagit heads between 475 and 575 grains. Floating sections are light green; full-sinking tips are dark green.

Heavy MOW Tips: T-14

Heavy MOW Tips use T-14 sinking material, rated at approximately 9 inches per second. RIO recommends this series for large flies and Skagit heads of 575 grains or more. Floating sections are light blue; full-sinking tips are dark blue.

Extra Heavy MOW Tips: T-17

Extra Heavy MOW Tips use T-17 sinking material, rated at nearly 10 inches per second. RIO recommends this series for heavier Skagit heads of 675 grains or more. Floating sections are gray; full-sinking tips are dark gray.
